PowerTel Awarded Dufferin Wind Farm Transmission Line and Transition Stations

PowerTel Utilities Contractors Limited was awarded the installation of the 47km of overhead 230 kV Transmission Linefor the Dufferin Wind Farm near Shelburne, Ontario. PowerTel is contracted directly to the developer, Longyuan Canada Renewables Ltd. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately, and is preliminarily expected to be completed in October, 2014.

The transmission line consists of 42 km of overhead line on wood pole vertical configuration structures, with steel poles on caissons at corners and 5 km of 230 kV underground cable. Also included in the award is the construction and partial procurement of 3 Transition Stations where underground line portions transition into the overhead line. The scope of work includes performing the Right-Of-Way clearing.

PowerTel was awarded this project not long after the energization of the South Kent Transmission Line Project. PowerTel’s impeccable performance at South Kent, among other projects, was a major contributing factor in the decision to award the contract. The transmission line at South Kent was energized ahead of schedule and the project was completed on budget.

PowerTel employees understand the sensitivity of the area, and the care required to perform industrial construction on farmland. Our fleet of low-ground-pressure PowerTraxx offroad equipment minimizes the impact that machines can have on the countryside, and our personnel have extensive experience working in an agricultural setting. This project will be among dozens of major transmission lines that PowerTel has built for wind projects.
