Dufferin Wind Farm 230kV Transmission Line Project Energized

PowerTel removed grounds and handed over control of the newly completed Dufferin Wind Farm Transmission Line to Longyuan Power on October 24, 2014. On October 25, the line was energized. This transmission line will carry power from the 100MW wind farm to the provincial grid. The line connects the collector substation in Reddickville to Hydro One’s Orangeville TS, some 47km away.

PowerTel faced a number of obstacles to complete this project. Extensive environmental restrictions, sensitive farmland construction routes, multiple demanding townships and the installation of 5km of 230kV underground cabling – a rarity in Canada – make up just some of the challenges overcome during construction.

PowerTel crews worked 7 days a week for a client with very specific scheduling requirements and completed the project on October 24 as promised.

PowerTel has completed dozens of transmission lines for wind farms, and continues to be Canada’s preferred contractor for high voltage grid connections.
