PowerTel's incorporation in 1968 was the successor to Central Canada Construction , the 1953 single proprietorship creation of Clary Gatien.
The late 1960s and early 1970s engaged PowerTel in the modernization of Northern Ontario municipal distribution systems in communities like Thunder Bay, Terrace Bay , Kapuskasing , Iroquois Falls , North Bay , Cochrane , Hearst , Sault Ste.Marie.
Starting in the mid to late 1970s PowerTel assisted in bringing electricity to many remote First Nation communities through diesel generation and overhead distribution systems.
The exposure to most of Northern Ontario allowed expansion into High Voltage Transmission and Substations for the mines in the mining communities.
The high voltage expertise acquired produced the natural extension into providing full service grid connections for private power producers and the next wave of high voltage industrial grid customers.
Over the years PowerTel and PowerTel USA has installed and maintained very large transmission lines for licenced transmitters in Canada (BrookField Power , Five Nations Energy , Ontario Hydro , New Brunswick Power , Nova Scotia Power , Canadian Niagara Power) and the United States (Bangor Hydro Electric , Niagara Mohawk , National Grid , New York Power Authority).
PowerTel has also installed some of the largest Transformer Stations in these same areas.
The expertise gathered over this time period has prepared PowerTel for the newest innovations in combustion, wind and renewable power generation. PowerTel has completed many generation projects that are leaders in this field (Prince I & II, Erie Shores , Kruger , Cochrane , Kirkland).
The collection of specialized heavy equipment for these projects has given our customers access to a fleet of rental equipment that is still unrivalled today.
2008 marks the 40th anniversary of providing high voltage solutions to a fantastic array of clients.
